Ian Latter: fine woodwork

Ian Latter

Ian has always been interested in art and craft, particularly wood and glass mediums. Starting as a lead light and stained glass artist in the early 1980’s, he progressively moved to working exclusively in wood and over the last 8 years developed his skills as a fine woodworker, exhibiting his work and completing various private commissions for boxes and other woodworking projects.

Right from the start he had a fascination with designing and making boxes. Initially, these were made from glass and subsequently his efforts have concentrated on making high quality unique one off handcrafted wooden boxes.

He works with a variety of timbers, including Australian and locally grown and imported timbers along with reclaimed timbers from the Canberra and local region when available.

All his boxes are handcrafted to a high standard with particular attention to detail. Generally his work is finished with oil and waxed to give a soft silken feel and touch, exhibiting the natural grain and texture of the wood.
